Humboldt Chapter

About Humboldt

The Humboldt chapter of CAFF was established in 2006 to serve as a hub for community projects relating to the region’s food system.  We meet on a monthly basis to share food and discuss ways to support local farms and farmers.

The Chapter’s goals are to:
-Promote Humboldt County agriculture and small family farms
-Increase community knowledge of local food systems
-Celebrate local food with community events and activities
-Influence policy related to food and agriculture

Activities
The Humboldt Chapter carries out many activities to reach its goals, including local farm tours, crop mobs, and farmers market produce tastings.  The Chapter is also one of the organizations behind the establishment of September as Local Food Month in Humboldt County, and continues to play a role in organizing an exciting month of events and educational opportunities.

Humboldt Policy Update
Humboldt’s General Plan is in the long process of being updated and we’re rallying community members to become involved.  We’ve been able to bring all the farmers’ market associations together in a common position statement on the County General Plan update.

The position statement is calling for stronger zoning protections and expanded incentive programs to protect Humboldt’s best farmlands. Call 268-3704 or visit the county’s website at www.planupdate.org to learn more about the General Plan Update including how you can participate and a schedule of community meetings and public hearings. (For now, clicking on the “add me to the Humboldt County GPU list” will get your comments to the right place until the appropriate link can be updated). Come out to the next GP meeting to make your voice heard!

Local Restaurants Buy Fresh, Buy Local
Look for participating restaurants displaying our Buy Fresh Buy Local decal in their windows. This CAFF identification shows that they are buying from local farmers and have special menu items using local food from our regional farmers.
