“First Fruits of the Season” celebrates Yolo County Farmlands

Yolo County’s finest organic strawberries, almonds, walnuts, olive oil and wines will be featured during the annual “First Fruits of the Season” celebration Sunday, May 17, at the historic Glide Ranch in rural Davis.

The event, benefiting the Yolo County Ag Futures Alliance, showcases the region’s agricultural community and commitment to preserving the local farmlands and environment.

From 3 to 5 p.m., visitors can sample fresh organic strawberries from Pacific Star Gardens, almonds and walnuts from Dixon Ridge Farms and olive oil from Copper Hill Olive Oil Co., Hillstone Olive Oil and Yolo Press. Rominger West Winery and Berryessa Gap Vineyards will pour its wines. The bluegrass and acoustic music band Chicken Tractor will entertain guests on the picturesque grounds at Glide, a historic working cattle ranch on Russell Boulevard, just minutes west from downtown Davis.

Tickets are $25 a person and are tax deductible. Proceeds benefit the Yolo Ag Futures Alliance, a volunteer group of agricultural, civic and environmental leaders working to maintain and enhance Yolo County agriculture and the environment.

For tickets, sponsorship opportunities or more information, contact Marcia Gibbs of Community Alliance with Family Farmers at (530) 756-8518 or marcia@caff.org. Information about the alliance is available at www.agfuturesalliance.org/yolo.
