Big Mesa Farm in Comptche, Ca is seeking to build the 2023 team!
Hello! This position is for someone who has a passion for local food production and learning sustainable farm systems. Must have a solid work ethic, be physically fit, with preferably at least one year experience in vegetable production, and your own transportation. The position is full time and requires attention to detail, great ability for learning and self motivation. There are sweet and simple housing opportunities onsite for a small rental fee. Compensation is hourly at 20-25/hr depending on experience and performance. This starts after after a 2 week paid training period. There are both full and part time positions available. We are looking for a commitment to the season starting April 15th thru December. Work is available year round. Se habla espanol.
The farm is located in Comptche, Ca, one half hour from the gorgeous mendocino coast. We are certified organic, 100% solar powered, and do our best to prioritize regenerative farming practices such as cover cropping, compost, and minimal tillage. We are moving towards no till in our greenhouses. We cultivate 4 acres of vegetables including 5 greenhouses. Crops include tomatoes, summer squash, cucumbers, melons, lettuce, salad mix, beets, carrots, flowers and much more! We sell wholesale direct to grocery stores, at 2 local farmers markets, and work with a wonderful local food hub. The farm is owned and operated by Caymin who has over 15 years experience with row crops and loves to share knowledge and include the team in problem solving and decision making. Farm systems are well established but always being improved and considered. We have a good time, enjoy working outside, work hard, care about eachother, and are committed to our production of local produce. Duties & Responsibilities include: Produce harvest and packing, tractor mounted transplanting, greenhouse and field seeding, field prep, tractor work if applicable, and greenhouse management. This is a fast paced, community and work oriented environment with a lot of learning, and self motivation.
