Crew Member/Farm Hand/Farm Worker Position Description

 

We are a small diversified farm with a focus on regenerative agriculture located in Ramona. Our farm specializes in pasture raised poultry (chicken and turkeys) for meat and egg production as well as seasonal vegetables. Our production venues currently include an on-farm stand, 2 farmers markets and a food cooperative (Foodshed).

 

We are currently looking for a hardworking individual who wants to be outside, get their hands (and clothes) dirty and work in a production type of atmosphere with an emphasis on humane practices and quality products. The schedule is 8 to 16 hrs per week and pays $15.625 ($125/day) to start as well as other benefits. Housing is potentially available.

 

This is an entry level position, so no experience is necessary. Work tasks include but may not be limited to:

 

Animals

·       Feeding

·       Moving

·       Pen Cleaning

·       Egg washing and packing

·       Broiler and stew chicken processing and packing (including cleaning and sanitizing equipment)

·       Assistance with vet needs

 

Plants

·       Bed prep

·       Seed starts

·       Planting/Transplanting

·       Weeding/cultivating

·       Trellising, pruning & training

·       Irrigation

·       Maintenance

·       Harvest

·       Wash and pack (including cleaning and sanitizing equipment)

 

General

·       Use of hand tools and power tools

·       Digging, raking, moving dirt and compost with wheelborrows, carts, etc.

·       Assist with projects such as fencing, erecting trellises and minor farm related construction

·       Assisting with farm clean up and presentation

·       Maintenance tasks and simple repairs

·       Basic record keeping associated with farm logs and production

·       Sales help at the farm stand and markets

 

Other Requirements

·       Abilty to follow instructions and adhere to both health and safety protocols

·       Ability to work in all types of weather and maintain personal health and relative comfort

·       Ability to lift and move 50 lbs repetitively for a short duration

·       Ability to communicate reasonably well and ask questions

·       Ability to get around…a driver’s license and vehicle may be helpful (Ramona has no reliable transit)

·       Great attitude and a desire to learn. Interest in diversified regenerative farming is very helpful
