About us

Coyote Family Farm is a 2-acre, certified organic, intensive market garden specializing in high-quality fresh produce and cut flowers. We market through our CSA/farm share, farmers market, and local restaurants and groceries.

We are in our ninth growing season and are looking for a motivated, energetic, and friendly crew member who is serious about contributing to the success of a small farm and gaining skills and experience in the field.

Farm crew members have a unique opportunity to engage in a wide variety of farm tasks, from soil preparation to greenhouse propagation to harvest and packing. We are community-minded and value our close working relationships on the farm and good communication. Located conveniently halfway between Petaluma and Santa Rosa, and only five minutes from Cotati/Rohnert Park.

We are seeking a part- to full-time (3-5 days) field crew worker to join our team. Depending on interest and aptitude, this person may be invited to do delivery driving and/or work the farmers market.

Position Details

Full-time (30-45 hours/week depending on season)

Position starts at $16/hour

One weekly farm share or equivalent produce (more as available)

Six month or more commitment

Skills and Qualifications

Motivated to contribute to the success of an ecological market farm

Experienced with repetitive outdoor work, and ideally on a vegetable farm

Must be capable of performing repetitive physical work with good humor in a variety of weather conditions: cold, heat, wind, rain.

Must be able to lift 50lb occasionally and 30lb regularly without strain.

Able to follow and retain written and verbal instructions and respond to feedback.

Able to work as a team and communicate in real time about the work at hand.

Able to work independently and maintain energy and focus.

Oriented toward efficiency.

Capable of and willing to work to meet time benchmarks for harvest and field tasks

General Expectations

Be on time to work each day with weather- and job-appropriate clothing

Provide your own work boots, work clothes, gloves and rain gear

Bring a positive attitude to your farm-mates and to the work at hand

Communicate clearly with fellow crew members and managers; make sure instructions are clear to you and that you are carrying them out to the necessary standard

Be able to receive and offer feedback graciously

Roles and Responsibilities: these are general; after a few weeks of training crew members tend to specialize in a couple of areas

With support of farm manager, harvest a variety of vegetable and flower crops

Process and store crops appropriately

Adapt to varying field and crop conditions to bring a high-quality product from the fields

Pack produce for farm share, wholesale orders, and prepare for farmers’ market

Keep packing area and harvest equipment clean and organized

Assist production manager in preparing field space for planting and producing high-quality, healthy crops.

Use walk-behind tractors safely with a variety of implements and keep machines in good condition.

Direct-seed and transplant crops.

Set up, run and maintain irrigation.

Cultivate fields regularly.

Participate attentively in weekly and daily meetings

Participate in record-keeping as trained

Keep workplace clean and organized
