assistant farmer

E.A. Anderson & Son

We are looking for a responsible, trustworthy individual or couple to work on a dryland grain and hay  operation in southeast Solano County. Primary duties include working with the cropping program in all its cycles, from operating large tractors for soil prep and planting to running combines for harvest. Prior experience is preferred; training is available for highly motivated learners who have some experience operating farm equipment. Organizational skills and the ability to work independently are essential, particularly for secondary off-season duties of helping maintain equipment and farmyard.  We are open to new ideas as part of employment, i.e. providing up to 10 acres of nearby land for entrepreneurial minded applicants. A tertiary goal is to secure farmstead coverage during our occasional get-aways.  Employment includes a one bedroom home (occupancy not to exceed two people), and (for full-time employment) paid major holidays, vacation, health insurance, and a SEP/IRA. Wage offer depends on experience. The farm is a 4th-generation grain/hay/sheep operation with six employees in the rolling Montezuma Hills (between Fairfield and Rio Vista). If you enjoy the rural life, this could be the opportunity for you. To discuss further, contact Ian Anderson at 707/689-4424.
