School Garden Network, a 501c3 non-profit in Sonoma County, CA, seeks an experienced communications professional with a broad range portfolio of communications, public relations, media, and community engagement tools and practices. We are looking for a motivated, results-oriented and entrepreneurial candidate with integrity; a commitment to education and a passion for gardening; and excellent written and verbal communications skills.  Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks is a must as well as a positive attitude and a good sense of humor.

Essential Functions Include: 

Act as the primary Point of Contact for the organization
Develop and implement long-term and project-based communications strategies
Develop newsletters, graphics, website and social media content  with the ability to engage and educate audiences across various channels
Develop and execute social media activities across multiple channels
Support public relations by writing, editing, and pitching content internally and externally
Draft press releases following organizational news
Identify, Research and Communicate with media outlets and journalists and create press kits
Use data and analyze it to support storytelling
Organize online events, performing outreach and marketing, creating social sharing toolkits, managing ‘day of’ social media and more
Proofread and coordinate production of communications materials
Serve as a brand gatekeeper for the organization and create brand-aligned marketing materials
Other projects as assigned

Qualifications and/or Experience:
You are a confident communicator, have strong writing, editing, and presentation skills and a wide degree of creativity. You have the proven ability to multitask, set priorities, develop a plan with metrics and see it through – and do what it takes to meet deadlines. You can deal with ambiguity and understand the importance of being flexible and adaptable. You thrive in a collaborative environment while taking the initiative and making things happen. You also have a good sense of humor.

 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Belief in the mission of School Garden Network
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Graphic design skills
Ability to use Canva or other graphic design software
Knowledge of and facility with social media platforms
Knowledge of basic press and media relations practices
Ability and desire to stay plugged into what’s happening in the mass media and popular culture
Ability to work collaboratively with Executive Director, staff and volunteers
Professional, well organized and strong attention to detail
Committed to excellence, and eager to constantly learn and grow
Highly motivated, and results oriented, able to complete tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
Flexible and able to work cooperatively under pressure
Knowledge of and belief in organic gardening

Compensation: 
Part time, exempt, position
$25/hour base rate
10-15 hours per week
Mileage reimbursements will be available for work related tasks at a rate of .58 cents per mile. This rate is subject to change and is based on the State’s recommendation.

Primary Location:
This position is based in Sonoma County, CA.
This position is remote, although in person staff meetings will be required on a regular basis.
