Community supported vegetable, flower, and culinary herb farm

West County Community Farm is a diversified farm near downtown Sebastopol, CA. We use regenerative practices to grow 8 acres of vegetables, flowers, culinary herbs, and strawberries primarily for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. All CSA members pick up their produce onsite weekly and enjoy u-pick crops including a strawberry patch and an extensive culinary herb and cut flower garden. We also sell wholesale to through our local co-operative distributor FEED Sonoma.

We are seeking a motivated individual to help oversee our field harvests, front-of-house CSA pick-ups, and u-pick gardens.

This person will be supervised by and work closely under our Garden & Harvest Manager to handle three main areas 1) the planting and maintenance of our 1.5 acres of u-pick flowers, culinary herbs, strawberries and other crops 2) leading our field harvests and wash pack and 3) running our CSA pick-ups. Over the course of a year, this person will generally split their time between working on the above areas of responsibility and field work with the whole crew. Field and garden work are intensive in the spring as we plant out the farm and then harvest and wash-pack duties increase from June – December.

This is a dynamic role with a central impact on the experience of our CSA members.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planting, maintenance, and irrigation of our flower and herb garden and u-pick crops
  • Lead the crew in efficient and organized field harvests
  • Create and maintain accurate harvest and inventory lists
  • Model efficient harvest pace and quality control in harvest and wash-pack areas
  • Run at least one CSA pick-up per week (the ability to work a Tuesday – Saturday schedule is a must)
  • Create clear signage and abundant displays for CSA pick-ups
  • Wash bins for harvest and maintain cleanliness of wash-pack and CSA pick-up zones
  • Work as part of the Field Crew (greenhouse seeding, transplanting, weeding, etc.) intensively in the Spring and then 1-2 days a week from June – December

Experience & Qualifications

  • 2 years experience in production vegetable farming and harvesting
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to keep clear and accurate written records
  • An eye for quality control & harvest presentation
  • Proven leadership & communication skills
  • The ability to learn on the job and to give and receive constructive feedback is a must!
  • A team player with a strong work ethic that can support others and help maintain a positive working environment
  • This is a very physically demanding job and candidates must have the ability to lift 40-50 lbs repeatedly and perform repetitive work in inclement weather, including heat up to 95 ̊F

Schedule & Compensation

  • $20-22/hr starting DOE
  • 30-40 hours/week from January through March and 40-45 hours/week from April through November
  • The ability to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule if needed to staff CSA pickups is required
  • 2 weeks paid vacation with the opportunity for more time off in the winter
