Winter Sister Farm is seeking a skilled person with agricultural experience to assist in the farm management for the 2023-2024 season. This person would work primarily with the farm owner, overlapping with a few other staff members at different points in the season, but for portions of the season would be the sole employee of the farm. For this reason, we are seeking someone who is happy working alone or with just one other person, especially in the summer months. We are geared specifically to provide food in the winter, so a comfort with cold and wet working conditions once harvest season begins is a must. This could be a great opportunity for someone to take on areas of responsibility and grow with the farm. We are also a new farm and so adaptability around developing systems is important. The ideal candidate would be a collaborative and creative problem-solver, a hard worker, and have a true love for farming.
The ideal candidate would start in April and commit for a full year. We strive to achieve a more measured workload distributed throughout the year; this position does require 4-5 days of work per week in all four seasons.
Areas with room for responsibility include:
- Greenhouse and propagation management
- Garden & perennial management
- Harvest and packshed management
- CSA & Farmstand management and interaction with customers
Additional work will include:
- Assist in planting, weeding, and general field work
- Assist with bulk (September/October) and weekly harvests (November – May)
- Assist with tractor work and light maintenance as needed
- Assist with irrigation management
- Lead crew work (when we have a crew)
Experience and skills required:
- 2 years of farm production experience
- General knowledge of a range of vegetable crops and growing practices, an eye for detail and quality control
- A strong interest in garden & greenhouse work in addition to production & field experience
- Familiarity with various irrigation systems, including repair and maintenance
- Some mechanical aptitude, interest in small engine maintenance and basic tractor & implement maintenance
- Basic construction skills
- Excellent communication skills
$22/hour + DOE, 34-40 hrs/week
1 week paid vacation plus some paid holidays.
Sick pay, workers comp insurance, and full winter CSA share included
