Holmes Grown USA is a second-generation avocado grove in Escondido, in the hills of northern San Diego County. Dick and Sandy Holmes planted the first commercial trees here in 1974. Today their son Kirk and his wife Becca farm the same ten acres.
We grow Hass and Fuerte. Our Hass season runs roughly March through September, with the main harvest falling between March and June. Fuerte follows through the winter, from about November into February. Fruit is picked and boxed the day it ships, so it arrives unripe and ripens on your counter rather than in a warehouse.
The grove is partway through a long replant, going back in at the original spacing first and increasing density as the young trees establish.
We ship direct, once a week, and we write up what we learn along the way: irrigation, harvest timing, and the parts of small-scale farming nobody warns you about.
