Background
After months of advocacy, the State Legislature proposed a joint budget agreement that would prevent critical investments in food hubs and small farm emergency relief from getting cut! Hurray!Â
Now we need the Governor to sign the budget bill and keep these critical funds in the final version. Please call the Governor TODAY to ensure these funds are protected!Â
About core programs:Â
- $14.4M to CDFA’s Farm to Community Food Hub: Created by former Asm Bloom, this program would create NEW food hubs across California. Other programs like Farm to School are great BUT only fund school purchases and do not offer substantial funding for the infrastructure needed to create a NEW food hub.Â
- $17.9M to CDFA’s California Underserved and Small Producer (CUSP): This funding was originally meant for drought relief funding for small and underserved farmers. We are fighting to not only get these dollars back but also broaden the scope to more than just drought but to cover all climate emergencies (wildfire, flood, pest disasters, drought, etc).Â
