Biologically Integrated Orchard Systems in Walnuts

Costs and Benefits of Mating Disruption

Mating disruption is a selective, low-risk alternative for controlling codling moth and navel orangeworm. There are multiple options for pheromone products that can be tailored to your farm. This study covers the costs and benefits of using mating disruption as a tool in walnut orchards.

This resource was created by CAFF staff and Berkeley Food Institute interns Magaly Santos and Jenny Rocha, with funding from CDFA’s Biologically Integrated Farming Systems (BIFS) Program. Special thanks to Cindy Lashbrook, Pacific Biocontrol, Semios, Suterra, Trécé, and Integral Ag Inc. for their insights and contributions.

All cost information and recommendations included in this cost study were collected in 2025.
