Success! Critical family farmer funding restored in state budget deal
We are thrilled to announce the Governor has signed this year’s budget which restores critical funds to resource food hubs and provides emergency relief to small and underserved farmers! This has been a hard-fought win and could not have happened without farmers and allies calling elected officials, lobbying in Sacramento and so on.  This budget deal protects the following investments:
  • $14.4 million to CDFA’s for a *NEW* Farm to Community Food Hub Program. This new program and funding will be instrumental in resourcing farmers and individuals working in the food supply chain to focus’ on uplifting local food systems. It focuses on creating new food hubs with planning and implementation funds.
  • $17.9 million to CDFA’s California Underserved and Small Producer (CUSP) program. This climate disaster relief funding was originally aimed at resourcing only drought and flood emergencies for small and underserved farmers. However, now the funds are more expensive and provide relief for a range of climate disasters from floods, drought to extreme invasive pest pressure.
  • $19.5 million to CDFA’s California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP), that funds Market Match.
