Organic Market Gardener
Oak Knoll Farming is seeking an experienced and dependable Organic Market Gardener to help manage all aspects of vegetable and specialty crop production for market sales and customer orders. This position requires hands-on knowledge of organic growing practices, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. The gardener will split their time between two garden properties, working full days at each. This is full time, seasonal opportunity with possible extensions.
Responsibilities:
- Start seeds in greenhouse and nursery settings, including propagation, watering, and seedling care.
- Prepare beds using a walk behind tractor or rototiller and transplant crops into the field.
- Plant, weed, thin, stake, trellis, prune, and otherwise maintain crops.
- Manage weed issues manually through pulling, hoeing, flaming and/or tarping.
- Monitor irrigation schedules and systems. Install and maintain drip tape. Repair leaks and tears.
- Monitor plant health and identify potential pest, disease, or nutrient issues.
- Harvest produce at peak quality and maturity.
- Wash, sort, package, and prepare produce for farmers markets, wholesale accounts, deliveries, and customer pickup.
- Assist with general farm upkeep. Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment
Qualifications:
- Previous experience growing vegetables, herbs, flowers, or specialty crops in a market garden, farm, or similar setting.
- Strong understanding of plant care, including seed starting, transplanting, weed control, crop maintenance, and harvesting.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Comfortable working independently, managing priorities, and solving problems with minimal supervision.
- Reliable, detail-oriented, and committed to producing high-quality crops and products.
