For months now, CAFF has been hard at work advocating in Sacramento, urging legislators to prevent tens of millions of dollars in small farm programs from being cut from the state budget. During that time, we called on you–farmers and families alike–to join us in contacting your representatives.Â
And as of this past weekend, all that hard work, including your calls and letters, paid off. After reaching a compromise, the Governor signed a state budget that preserves funding for food hubs, small farm emergency relief, and financial aid that allows low-income families to purchase nutritious foods at farmers markets!Â
First and foremost, we want to thank all of you who heard our call-to-action and took a stand. CAFF is made up of people like you and when we work together as a community, it’s possibly to make real, lasting change.
We also want to particularly thank the following legislators for championing the needs of family farmers and land stewards during a challenging budget year: Assemblymember Steve Bennett, Senator Josh Becker, Mike McGuire, Speaker Robert Rivas, Assemblymember Gail Pellerin, Assemblymember Carlos Villapudua , Asm. Lori Wilson, Asm. Assemblymember Cecilia Aguiar-Curry , Asm. Schiavo , Asm. Assemblymember Josh Lowenthal, Senator Melissa Hurtado, Sen. Bill Dodd.
Thank you.
