On Friday, June 6th at 12:30 PM, the Merced community gathered to celebrate the grand opening of Sweet Roots Kitchen, a brand-new commercial kitchen created by Sweet Valley Produce, a local business owned by Angelica Estrada. This transformative space is designed to support local food producers and entrepreneurs, with a focus on uplifting small-scale farmers in Merced County.

The official ribbon-cutting ceremony marked an exciting new chapter for the region’s agricultural community—especially for farmers looking to create value-added products and expand their market reach. Sweet Roots Kitchen officially opens its doors to the public on June 9th, 2025.
More than just a shared workspace, Sweet Roots Kitchen is a hub for innovation, sustainability, and economic empowerment. The facility offers local farmers and food makers access to professional-grade equipment, technical support, and a licensed space to safely produce goods that meet market standards. This means fresh, locally grown harvests can now be transformed into sauces, jams, baked goods, and other specialty items—helping farmers diversify their income and reach new customers.

What makes this initiative even more impactful is its leadership. As a BIPOC woman-owned business, Sweet Valley Produce and its founder, Angelica Estrada, are deeply committed to building equity, inclusion, and opportunity within the local food system.
By lowering barriers to entry for small and historically underrepresented producers, Sweet Roots Kitchen is creating real pathways for business growth and community success.
This project represents a powerful step forward for the Merced region—one that supports a more resilient, inclusive, and locally-driven food economy.
