Community supported vegetable, flower, and culinary herb farm

About the farm

West County Community Farm is a diversified farm near downtown Sebastopol, CA. We use regenerative practices to grow 10 acres of vegetables, flowers, culinary herbs, and strawberries primarily for our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. We also sell wholesale through our local distributor FEED Cooperative. We strive to maintain a professional, supportive, and fun work environment where team members grow season after season.

About the job

We’re looking for a part-time team member to join our Field Crew on Fridays and Saturdays. Fridays are harvest-focused, with about 5 hours of harvesting in the mornings followed by weeding and other horticultural tasks alongside the crew. Saturdays are front-facing, running our CSA member pickup.

This is a great position for someone in school or with other obligations who’d like to farm for part of the week on a diversified vegetable production farm, on a close-knit team and in a rich CSA community.

Experience & Qualifications

  • A year of crew experience on a farm, or similar fast paced physical work experience
  • The proven ability to work outdoors in inclement weather including rain, cold, and heat up to 95 degrees
  • The ability to maintain a positive attitude and stay focused in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong people skills and comfort interacting with the public — our CSA members are an engaged, curious community
  • The ability to receive and apply constructive instruction and contribute to a positive, supportive team culture
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs repeatedly and perform physically demanding tasks (squatting, bending, kneeling) for extended periods
  • Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks as needed

CSA Pickup Duties (Saturdays)

  • Setting up and breaking down a market-style array of vegetable bins
  • Interacting with CSA members, answering questions about produce and u-pick crops
  • Restocking bins; keeping the cooler, wash-pack, and CSA pickup area clean and abundant
  • Washing used harvest totes and recording end-of-day inventory
  • Occasional tractor use to move and store macro bins of vegetables like watermelon and squash
  • Compensation & Schedule
